An American High School curriculum begins with the 9th grade. Each course a student takes earns points toward the overall Grade Point Average (GPA). Classes that meet daily all year earn one credit, while those that meet either only one semester or for only 2-3 days a week earn 1/2 credits. XIS requires a minimum of 22 credits for graduation during 4 years of high school. Basic and advanced core courses in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Chinese are taught by qualified teachers in 50 minute periods.

Since 2012, XIS has also offered select online courses that are available to help High School students focus on diversifying their academic transcripts.
